Obituary

Arthur J. Ruby, 80, of Iselin, NJ, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 4, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street at Barron Avenue, Woodbridge, NJ. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cranford United Methodist Church, 201 Lincoln Avenue East, Cranford, NJ. Art was born in Jersey City, NJ where he graduated from Dickinson High School. He lived in Iselin, NJ for the past 54 years. He was a natural salesman who began his career selling encyclopedias door to door throughout the USA. He spent the majority of his career in retail sales and management. He was employed by Stern's Department Store, Woodbridge Center, as the Manager of the Furniture Department and Home Furnishings. He retired as a Senior Manager in 1994, after 24 years. After retirement, with a passion for getting things done and his strict attention to detail, he enjoyed gardening and working around his home and those of his children. He cherished spending time and playing with his grandchildren and his dog, Pippa. He also loved to travel, especially to the Islands of the Caribbean. His pastimes included reading and keeping up with current events, and he was an avid sports fan, especially of the NY Mets and Jets. He lived with joy and his warm personality made him easy to be around. He was predeceased by his parents, David and Lillian (Newell) Ruby, his brother, David, his first wife, Bette (Markiewicz) and his son-in-law, Lawrence E. Brechka. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Beverly (Johnson), his daughter, Linda Brechka of Brick, his son Tom and his wife Karen of Cranford, his grandchildren, Kurt Brechka and his wife, Sara, Allison Brechka, Bridget and Lukas Ruby, and great-grandchildren, Richard and Kaelyn. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation is Arthur's name to the Alzheimer's Association, 400 Morris Avenue, Denville, NJ 07834 or to Haven Hospice, 65 James Street, Edison, NJ 08818.
