A Beloved Brother, Friend, and Veteran

Archie Omar Johnson, a beloved brother, veteran, father, and friend, passed away on August 19, 2015. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on April 11, 1979, to Robin Cain Johnson and Archie Johnson, Sr., Archie was a man defined by his service to his country and his curiosity about the world.

Early Life and Education

Archie’s foundation was built in Philadelphia, where he attended St. Elizabeth’s and St. Ignatius Catholic Elementary schools. He graduated from West Catholic Preparatory High School in 1998, a time during which his vibrant personality truly began to shine. A natural leader and active participant, Archie was involved in the Student Council, Community Service Corps, and the International Club. His athletic spirit led him to the Cross Country and Track teams, while his soulful side found expression in the Gospel Choir. It was during these years that his lifelong love for music took root as he mastered both the piano and the trumpet.

Outside of his school activities, Archie was an avid reader with a particular fondness for graphic novels. He could often be found immersed in the worlds of Wolverine, Spider-Man, and the Avengers, or enjoying the wit of classic comedies like Martin, The Cosby Show, and A Different World. During his high school years, Archie became a member of Pinn Memorial Baptist Church in West Philadelphia.

Military Service

Following graduation, Archie felt a call to duty and enlisted in the United States Army. He served with honor from March 24, 1999, until his honorable discharge in March 2003. Based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, he served as a Private First Class and a Telecommunications Operations Specialist.

For his dedicated service, Archie was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon. He also earned the Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar—a testament to the discipline and skill he brought to his unit.

A Global Spirit

After his military service, Archie embraced his adventurous spirit and traveled abroad to Frankfurt, Germany. He spent meaningful time in the town of Filderstadt, where he found a deep connection to the local art, music, and the authentic countryside. His travels took him throughout Europe and the United Kingdom, including London, as he sought to experience the breadth of the world he had once only read about.

Legacy and Family

In his later years, Archie resided in Boston and Beverly, Massachusetts. He was an honorable man who leaned on the support of his fellow veterans and the Department of Veterans Affairs as he navigated the challenges of mental health. His journey was one of courage, and he is remembered for his warmth and the kindness he shared with those around him.

Archie is survived by his daughter, Moriah; three siblings, Lillian Rennell Cain, Tamara Ann Johnson, and Abdul Johnson; his grandmother, Lillian Cain; his uncle, Adolphus Johnson; and aunts Antoniette Stith-Byrd, Denise Cain, Dana Johnson, Stacey Johnson, Brenda Anthony, Peggy Newkirk, Laverne Cato, and Cherry Cain. He was an uncle to five nieces and nephews: Drayona Robin Denson, Brielle Mercer, Baynnah Mercer, Alana Robin Johnson, and Xavier Bryce Fleming.

Archie was preceded in death by his parents; his uncles, Arley Johnson and Franklin Cain Jr; his aunt, Diane Campbell; his grandmother, Anna Johnson; and his grandfathers, Franklin Cain Sr. and George Adolphus Daniel Johnson.

A Memorial Service honoring Archie's life and legacy will take place on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church, West Location, 230 West Coulter Street, Philadelphia, PA 19144. Military honors performed by the 99th Readiness Division will follow. All are invited for pre-service observance beginning at 8:00 a.m. at the Church.
