Obituary

Dr. Anthony B. Zegarelli of the Hopelawn section of Woodbridge Township passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at home. He was 89 years old.

He was born in Newark, NJ and resided in Hopelawn for the past 46 years.

Dr. Zegarelli was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean War and went on to attend Monmouth University. He earned his Bachelor of Arts, and a Master and Doctorate in Education from Rutgers University. Dr. Zegarelli was an educator for 45 years before retiring from The Woodbridge Township Board of Education in 1993.

After retirement, he consulted for the Educational Testing Service. His love for music and his own renditions of classics from Enrico Caruso to Frank Sinatra was only surpassed by his love for his family.

He was a Communicant of St. Stephens Church, John Paul II Parish in Perth Amboy; a member of The N.J. Education Association and The Rutgers Alumni Association.

He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Antoinette Scarano Zegarelli; and a brother Thomas Zegarelli, Jr..

Surviving is his beloved wife of 50 years Christine Wolak Zegarelli; a sister Marylou Cary and husband Alan of New York City; two sisters-in-law Patricia Ryan of Fort Myers, Florida and Donna Marie Gaetano and husband Lawrence of Point Pleasant. Nieces and nephews Mark Zegarelli, Tami Zegarelli, Deseret Mulugetta and husband Retta, Jacqueline Lentini and husband Vincent, Matthew Gaetano and wife Amy, Stephen Gaetano and wife Sarah, Marialana Mercadante and husband Anthony; Grand Nieces and Nephews Joseph Cianflone, Gianna Lentini, Dominic, Catherine, Peter, Marie, and Elizabeth Gaetano; Michael, Matthew, and Cecilia Gaetano; and Amelia Mercadante; and three great nieces and nephews.

Funeral will take place Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at 9:15 a.m. from Costello-Greiner Funeral Home (www. Costello-greiner.com) 44 Green Street at Barron Avenue, Woodbridge. A 10:00 a.m. Funeral Liturgy will take place at St. Stephens R.C. Church, Perth Amboy. Interment will be in St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia.

Visiting hours will be Monday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
