Obituary

Anthony J. Tortorello passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at Springhill Care Center in Matawan surrounded by his loving family. He was 93 years old.

Born in Newark on June 6, 1932 to the late Rose and John Tortorello, he resided in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township for 63 years. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1952 until 1954; and communicant of Saint Andrew's Catholic Church, in Avenel. He worked as a truck driver for 45 years before his retirement in 1994.

Anthony (also affectionately known as Tony or "Chan" by friends, and Dad, Pop and Uncle Tony by family) lived a long, beautiful life defined by hard work, generosity, integrity and an unwavering devotion to his loved ones. Together with Josephine, his loving wife of 71 years, Anthony built a family that became the center of his world and the source of his greatest pride. He was a true jack-of-all-trades, whether it was carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, or automotive repair, there was nothing Anthony could not build, fix, or improve. His kindness and willingness to help others without expecting anything in return left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

Surviving are his wife Josephine Tortorello; children, Toni Fernandez of Hopelawn and her husband Tony, Anthony Tortorello of Hopelawn and his wife Patricia, and Kim Avelino of Gainsville, Florida; and grandchildren, Anthony Tortorello and his wife Natalie, Samantha Estevez and her husband Alberto, Laura Gubitosi, Daniel Fernandez and his wife Giovanna, Alexandra and Angelique Avelino, and his beloved great-grandchildren Lily and Jaxon.
