Anthony John Sciarpelletti passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026 at his home in the Colonia section of Woodbridge Township. He was 93 years old.

Born in Port Reading on May 16, 1932 to the late Maria and John Sciarpelletti, he has resided in Colonia since 1971.

Mr. Sciarpelletti worked as an apprentice plumber before attending barber school in New York City and Newark. He then apprenticed as a barber in Perth Amboy and worked as a barber in Port Reading before opening his own shop, “Anthony’s Hair Hut” in Woodbridge which he owned and operated for 50 years before retiring in 2013.

He was a graduate of Woodbridge High School, Class of 1953; communicant of Saint John Vianney Catholic Church in Colonia; and served in the United States Navy as Seaman First Class in the engine room of the USS 582 from 1952 until 1954.

Anthony also served as a volunteer firefighter in Port Reading, as treasurer of the Port Reading Social Club and sponsored a bowling team at Carteret Lanes for many years.

He enjoyed spending time with his feline friends, Smokey, Jasper, Eric, Cicila, Timona and Jammies.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Sciarpelletti was predeceased by his sisters, Pauline Cantillo, Augusta Kashtok-Young and Rose Boross.

Surviving are his loving wife of 63 years, Charlotte Hutnick Sciarpelletti; sister, Millie Posaski; and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at Costello- Greiner Funeral Home 44 Green Street Woodbridge, NJ 07095. Entombment will follow at Saint James Chapel Mausoleum, Woodbridge. Visitation for family and friends will be on Wedsnesday morning beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
