Anna Pichalski passed away on Monday, June 30, 2014 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. She was 85 years old. Born in Carteret, she was raised in Rahway and resided in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township for most of her life. Mrs. Pichalski was a graduate of Rahway High School and owned and operated the Maple Tree Tavern in Avenel for 45 years before retiring in 2000. She was a communicant of Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Avenel, where she belonged to the Rosary Society and served as a lector. She was active in local politics as a member of the Avenel Democratic Club, Middlesex County Committeewoman and as Chairlady of Woodbridge 3rd Ward. She was also a member of Golden Circle, Avenel Seniors and Saint Andrew's Knights of Columbus Widows Circle. She was predeceased by her husband, Dominic Pichalski, in 1973; her parents Peter and Anna Rosko Lengyel. Surviving are three daughters, Diane Pichalski and her partner, Cathie Illenberg, of Middletown, NY, Judith A. Potyrala of Avenel and Nancy A. Fisher and her husband, James, Jr., of Hazlet; a son, Anthony P. Pichalski and his companion, Christine Suhay, of Woodbridge; two sisters, Olga Gibbs of Manasquan and Helen Roder of Woodbridge; ten grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday, July 7, 2014 at 9:15 a.m. from the Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Andrew Catholic Church, Avenel. Interment will be in Saint James Cemetery, Woodbridge. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
