Obituary

Anna Dorothy Samons Gere passed away on Monday April 21, 2025 at her home in Woodbridge. She was 90 years old.

Born on June 29, 1934 in Perth Amboy she was the only child of John and Anna Zullo Samons. Her mother had passed away during childbirth leaving her father, grandmother and aunts to raise her where she grew up in Port Reading until she met her future husband, Joe.

Anna and Joe met in High School at a wedding in town, they danced that night, dated and fell in love. Anna worked at the Raritan Arsenal while Joe was drafted into the Army and stationed on Military Pier in Chicago. On a furlough Joe came home and married Anna on September 1, 1956. They purchased a new black & white Ford convertible and honeymooned driving across the US to California, Mexico and back to Chicago to finish his military service. When they returned they lived in Carteret then Port Reading and eventually moved to Woodbridge, their home forever.

The love story of Anna and Joe is one of earthly love for 65 years but is one that will endure forever as they meet again.

Anna was also a devoted mother and grandmother referred to as "Nonnie" by friends and family and "Ma" by her grandchildren.

Anna worked at the Conair Corporation in Edison for 35 years as a manager starting in the mid-70's. Her favorite pastimes were watching her grandchildren when they were younger, rooting for her Yankees (a huge fan), bingo and trips to Atlantic City. She would rent a private bus inviting her entire family to come along and celebrate any Big Milestones whatever they might be.

Along with her parents she was predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, Joseph Gere, in 2022.

Surviving Anna are her son Joseph Gere and his wife Jennifer of Freehold; grandchildren Alexander, Austin and Jordan Gere of Freehold; and her stepbrother, John Samons, of Denville.
