Obituary

Andrew Vargo (born Varga) passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Illinois. He was 93 years old.

He was born in Woodbridge on January 16, 1924 and resided on Almon Avenue in Woodbridge until 1967, when he moved to Wheeling, Illinois, where he lived for the next 50 years.

Mr. Vargo entered the Army Air Corps during World War II. After the war, he remained in the Air Force Reserve and retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel. He was a graduate of Rutgers University. He was employed as the Manager of Distribution in the Chemicals Division of the Union Oil Company until his retirement.

Andy was a very avid golfer, a Civil War history buff, loved to play gin rummy with his daughter and his fishing buddies on trips to Canada, and a big fan of the New York Giants football team.

Mr. Vargo was predeceased by his wife Helen (Pastor), who passed away in 1994, and two sisters, Irene and Margaret. He is survived by his daughter Andrea Duffy, her husband Brendan, two step granddaughters, Alison and Elizabeth Duffy, his sisters in law Lillian and Ruth, his brother in law Peter, and his many nieces and nephews and their families in and around New Jersey.

Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church at 600 Rahway Avenue in Woodbridge on Saturday, July 15 at 9:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Burial Park in South Brunswick. Visitation will be on Friday from 4-8 at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street, Woodbridge
