Andrew C. Shinka passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway.  He was 85 years old.

Born on November 23, 1938 in New York, NY to the late Helen and Andrew Shinka, he has resided in Woodbridge for the past 57 years.

He was a United State Marine Corps Veteran.

He received his bachelors degree in Education from Newark State College, now Kean University; and was employed as a fifth grade teacher with  the Bridgewater-Raritan School District at Hamilton and Adamsville Elementary Schools for 30 years before retiring in 1995.

He was a communicant of Saint James Catholic Church in Woodbridge.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed woodworking, bowling, gardening, softball and word puzzles.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Sonia Turk Shinka; daughter, Christine Siburn, of Port Reading; son, Andrew J. Shinka and his wife, Eva, of Granville, OH; brother, Robert Shinka, of Bradenton, FL; and grandchildren, Grant Shinka, Sophia Shinka, and Jack Siburn.

Funeral services will take place on Thursday, February 22, 2024 9:45 a.m. from Costello-Greiner Funeral Home (costello-greiner.com), 44 Green Street, Woodbridge. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Saint James Catholic Church, Woodbridge. Entombment will be in Saint James Chapel Mausoleum, Woodbridge. Visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
