Andrew J. Pataky, Sr. passed away on Friday, December 13, 2013 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway. He was 87 years old. Born in Pavlovce, Slovakia, he resided in Linden before moving to the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township 49 years ago. Mr. Pataky was employed as a mechanic for many years before retiring from Twin County Grocers in Edison in 1994. He was a communicant of Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Avenel. Mr. Pataky was predeceased by his wife, Anna Kislan Pataky, in 2001. Surviving are two daughters, Andrea Freiwald of Highland Park and Dolores Baran of Toms River; two sons, Andrew Pataky of Avenel and Steven T. Pataky of Avenel; three sisters, Maria Skrobak, Barbara Kosjcan and Susan Gerhatoda; two brothers, Stefan Pataky and Julius Pataky; three grandchildren, Eric Freiwald, Mary Anne Baran and Lisa Wuchter; and two great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Eric. Funeral services will take place on Monday, December 16, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. Interment will follow in Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation will be on Monday morning at the funeral home beginning at 9:30 a.m.
