Andres "Poppie" Yanez passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at his home in Woodbridge. He was 81 years old. Born in Carino, Spain, he resided in Newark before moving to Woodbridge in 1964. Mr. Yanez was employed as a crane operator for Maersk Sea Land Company in Port Newark through Local 1235 of the Longshoreman's Union in Newark for 45 years before his retirement in 1997. He was a communicant of Saint James Catholic Church in Woodbridge and a veteran of the Spanish Navy. Mr. Yanez was predeceased by a son, Andrew Yanez, in 2012. Surviving are his children, Dolores "Dee" Rilho and her husband, Edward, of North Brunswick and Adrian Yanez and his wife, Judi, of Colonia; their mother, Rita Veiga Yanez, of Tinton Falls; a brother, Antonio Yanez and his wife, Pilar, of Kearny; eight grandchildren, Justin Yanez, Adriano Yanez and his wife, Marcella, Kristina Yanez, Anthony F. Yanez, Robert A. Yanez, Eddy Y. Rilho, Naya Y. Rilho and Shannon Paola; and a great granddaughter, Cecilia Yanez. Funeral services will be on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 9:45 a.m. from Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street, Woodbridge. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Saint James Catholic Church, Woodbridge. Entombment will follow in Saint James Chapel Mausoleum, Woodbridge. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2:00 until 4:00 and 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
