Amelia Potts passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2016. She lived a long and joyfilled life for 97 years.

She was born in Brooklyn and resided in Carteret before moving to the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township 72 years ago.

Mrs. Potts was employed as a beautician with Lou Sal's Beauty Parlor in Woodbridge.

She was a communicant of Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Avenel and was a member of the Altar Rosary Society at the Church. She also belonged to Golden Circle, Avenel Seniors and was a member of the former M.T. Squares Square Dancing Club of Menlo Park.

Mrs. Potts was predeceased by her husband, James H. Potts, Sr., in 1999; a son, James H. Potts, Jr., in 2014; and two brothers, Salvatore and Alfred Vernachio.

Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Martin and her husband, Bruce, of Parlin; a sister, Helen Gilligan, of Avenel; two brothers, Orlando Vernachio of Woodbridge and Thomas Vernachio of Carteret; four grandsons, Bruce, Todd and Chris Martin and Keefe Potts; and nine great grandchildren, Zac, Christine, Christopher, Ryan, Jennifer, Nicholas, Sparks, Henry and Wolfgang.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. from the Costello-Koyen Funeral Home, 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Andrew Catholic Church, Avenel. Interment will be in Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
