Amelia H.
Gavin
March 24, 1940 — October 15, 2023
Woodbridge
Amelia H. "Amy" Gavin of Woodbridge passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. She was 83 years old.
Born in St. Clair, PA, she resided in Woodbridge for the past 54 years. Amy was predeceased by her husband and favorite dance partner, Richard P. Gavin; her parents, Paul and Helen Stepanowski Pinkasavage, and her brother, Bill Pinkasavage. Amy is survived by her four children, Ken Gavin and his wife, Eileen, of Schaghticoke, NY, Kathy Franzone and her husband, Ed, of Apex, NC, Jack Gavin and his wife, Kathleen, of Lincroft and Peggy Bubb and her husband, Danny, of Woodbridge. She is also survived by her grandchildren Cailin, Ciaran, Rose, Cayden, Beth, Tommy, Maeve and Delia, and her two devoted sisters, Lillian Davis of Pennsylvania and Vicky Binetti of Sewell.
Amy, or "Nana" to her grandchildren, was a caring daughter, faithful sister, devoted wife, loving mother, and adoring grandmother. She stood in the rain to watch countless soccer games, attended Irish step-dancing competitions throughout the state, and gladly provided taxi services to her grandchildren. She cared for her loved ones through broken bones, accidents and other illnesses. Holidays were always hosted at the Gavin house even though it was never big enough to fit her endlessly growing family.
After her child-rearing days were done she scratched the itch to travel with a group of close friends known as the CHAs, and with her brother Bill and his wife Arlene. She enjoyed trips to Ireland, Alaska, and Italy, as well as many local excursions.
Amy was a communicant of Saint James Catholic Church in Woodbridge where she lived her faith through action, serving in numerous volunteer roles, including as a Eucharistic Minister, lector, CCD teacher, member of the Altar Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters of America, for whom she once served as president. She will be dearly missed by many relatives, friends, and neighbors.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint James Catholic Church, Woodbridge. Entombment will follow at Saint James Chapel Mausoleum, Woodbridge. Visiting hours will be on Friday, October 20, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, 44 Green Street, Woodbridge.
In lieu of flowers contributions to the St. James Food Pantry in Woodbridge or the Susan G. Komen Foundation in Mrs. Gavin's memory would be appreciated by her family.
