Alfred F. Russo passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at his home in the Port Reading section of Woodbridge Township. He was 77 years old.
He was born in, and a lifelong resident of, Port Reading.
Mr. Russo graduated from Seton Hall University in 1965 where he studied business administration and accounting while working part-time in Office of the Comptroller for Woodbridge Township. After graduation he took a full time job with Woodbridge Township before joining the Monroe International Division of Litton Industries in Orange and then was employed as senior tax accountant with General Cable Works in Perth Amboy for several years.
After receiving his doctorate in jurisprudence from Seton Hall Law School in 1971, he returned to Woodbridge Township where he was employed as township legal assistant and headed the township's Department of Consumer Affairs. He eventually served Woodbridge Township under four mayors in various capacities, including law director, and also served as legislative aide to Senator Jack Fay.
Mr. Russo practiced law in Woodbridge Township for over 50 years in total, the majority of that time with the firm of Russo and Casey.
He was a lifelong active communicant of Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Port Reading, where he served on the Building Committee for the new church; and was an exempt member of Port Reading Volunteer Fire Company.
Mr. Russo cherished time spent with his family at the New Jersey shore. As a dedicated Seton Hall Pirates sports fan, he was a faithful supporter of the Pirate Blue Nation.
He was predeceased by his parents, Nunzio Russo, in 1954 and Mary Zuccaro Russo, in 1996.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Patricia Pannone Russo; children, Vincent Russo of Ocean Grove, Anne Russo-Borges and her husband, Joseph, of Yorktown Heights, NY, Amy Russo-Farina and her husband, Ronald, of Easton, PA and Eric Russo and his wife, Nicole, of Riverdale Park, MD; grandchildren, Ashleigh, Samantha, Alyson, Gianna, R.J., Blake, Alexa, Luciano, Simona and Paola; and great grandchildren, Mileva and Beyla.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, April 30, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home (costello-greiner.com), 44 Green Street (at Barron Avenue), Woodbridge. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated privately for the immediate family.
In lieu of flowers contributions to Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Port Reading, NJ or the Port Reading First Aid Squad in Mr. Russo's memory would be greatly appreciated by his family.
