Alfred E. Abate passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital at Rahway. He was 82 years old.

Born in Rahway, he was a lifelong resident of Rahway and Clark.

Mr. Abate served in the United States Army from 1961 until 1962; and went on to own and operate Abates Service Station in Rahway for many years.

He was a communicant of Saint Agnes Catholic Church in Clark; and loved the New York Yankees, bowling, and golf.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Lori Federico; parents, Anthony and Stella Zullo Abate; and brother, Pasquale "Patsy" Abate.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Anna Zimmerman Abate; son, Anthony A. Abate and his companion, Patty Dacosta, of Parlin; grandchildren, Jessica and Nicholas Abate; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will take place on Monday, March 25, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home ( www.costello-greiner.com ), 44 Green Street at Barron Avenue, Woodbridge. Visiting hours will be Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
