Obituary

Alex Fundock III, aged 72, passed away July 13, 2025, in Clermont, FL at the Mike Conley Hospice House following complications resulting from Muscular Dystrophy.

He was born to Alex Jr. and Marie Fundock on April 20, 1953, in Perth Amboy, NJ. In 1971, he graduated from Edison High School He then attended Rutgers University, where he graduated with a B.A. in Journalism. From 1976 to 1986, he worked as an Editor for Transaction books before transferring to Rutgers as a literary editor until retiring in 1997.

Alex was a lifelong Yankees fan and music lover. He was an avid collector of vinyl records, CDs, model military planes, and baseball cards. Partially inspired by his father, he had a love for history and was highly knowledgeable about the subject. Alex was also known for his stubbornness and fought for his beliefs.

When I was in Kindergarten, I would take the bus to and from school. One day, during a massive storm, the driver let us off and made me and other neighborhood children walk a long way back in a thunderstorm. My dad was furious and called the director of transportation directly to tell them what had occurred, which led to a district-wide rule change preventing bus drivers from letting off elementary-aged students during treacherous weather. Throughout the rest of my time in elementary school, I had instructors who would recognize my last name and ask if I was the kid whose father got the school to change bus policies.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Fundock (whom he married May 14th, 1994), daughter Kathryn Fundock (born August 1, 2005), and his younger sister, Kim Ryan (born May 5th, 1957).

The memorial is on August 13, 2025, at Costello-Greiner Funeral Home and begins at 9:30 AM. A service from a clergyman will begin at 10 AM, same date and location.
