Albina D'Alessio passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy Division. She was 88 years old.
Born in Woodbridge on November 11, 1935 to the late Maria and Carmen D'Alessio, she resided in the Port Reading section of Woodbridge Township before moving to Fords in 1966.
Ms. D'Alessio was a lifelong communicant of Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Port Reading.
She graduated from Woodbridge High School, Class of 1953; and Newark Teachers College Class, of 1957, where she went on to earn her Master's Degree.
Albina was a lifelong educator and an innovator with the Woodbridge Township Board of Education Special Education Program, serving many roles throughout the years. During her career she was dedicated to providing inclusive education to students with special needs. She was the first special education teacher; the first learning disabilities teacher consultant; a member of the first child study team; supervisor of special education for the district; and was instrumental in the formation of the Camp Pace extended school year program. She also assisted in the opening of Matthew Jago, School #28 which became a statewide model for inclusive education, where she retired from, as principal, in 1993.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Victor, in 2020.
Albina will be dearly missed by her many friends, extended family and neighbors.
Funeral services will take place on Friday, July 5, 2024 beginning with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Port Reading. A Mass of Resurrection will follow 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Saint James Cemetery, Woodbridge.
In lieu of flowers contributions to Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 436 Port Reading Avenue, Port Reading, NJ 07064 in Albina's memory would be greatly appreciated.
